Wings of Fury is a multi scrolling action shoot 'em up game where you pilot your F6F Hellcat to fight at the Pacific Theater of War during World War II. The game was originally released for the Apple II computers and in 1990 was ported to the Commodore Amiga, DOS, Amstrad CPC and Commodore 64. In 1999, Wings If Fury was also released for the Game Boy Color. Note there's an alternative version of the game called "Wings". Wings was released for the Sharp X68000 computers in 1989 and in this game you fly a Zero fighter of the Japanese Air Force!

Review
Wings of FurySTORY / GAMEPLAY
The game is set on the Pacific Theater during the WWII and the goal is to defeat the enemies (the Japanese army) by destroying enemy bunkers, turrets and barracks planted in a series of islands and eliminate all the enemy ground forces either with bombs or with your machine guns. The game is a bit difficult to control as you must dive all the way down to shoot enemy troops. So you always have to be careful not to crash on the ground! You are also assigned to sink Japanese battleships, destroyers, and aircraft carriers. The available weapons to complete these objectives are some limited bombs, rockets and torpedoes (carrying only one at a time). Apart from the ground targets there are several enemy aircrafts to intercept you, so you gonna need some rockets at this occasion. Whenever necessary, you may fly backwards the screens to shoot the targets again and finish your destructive objectives. The game starts aboard the USS Warp aircraft carrier, as its main function is to provide air support.

GRAPHICS / SOUND
Wings Of Fury on the CPC looks great and sports impressive graphics (pretty close to the Amiga). Also, the CPC has a few more details compared to the original Apple II and uses a better color palette (compared to any other 8bit counterparts). One cons is its animation that suffers a bit, increasing the game's difficulty level and pushing you to be a bit precise on the controls, especially when diving to shoot ground troops or to release torpedoes and bombs. The game's sound is good and includes your aircraft's engine, guns firing and explosions.

Amstrad CPC 464/664/6128

Amstrad CPC 464/664/6128CPU: ZiLOG Z80 4MHZ
MEMORY: 64 KB or 128 KB of RAM depending on the model (capable of being expanded to 512k using memory extension boards)
GRAPHICS: Motorola 6845 address generator, Mode 0: 160x200 / 16 colors, Mode 1: 320x200 / 4 colors, Mode 2: 640x200 / 2 colors, A colour palette of 27 colors was supported
SOUND: The CPC used the General Instrument AY-3-8912 sound chip, providing 3 channels Mono Sound (via internal speaker) but capable to offer Stereo Sound provided through a 3.5 mm headphones jack (with pretty impressive outcome!). Also, it is possible to play back digital sound samples at a resolution of approximately 5bit. This technique is very processor-intensive though.
